DT: Well, I just don't understand the reasoning behind killing good characters. In my perspective, it kills off a likable person who had potential. Call me soft, call me naive, but I just don't understand.
Tonks: Well, it increases suspense. You can't not kill good characters, because then the reader gets too used to it. They won't care about a major battle, because their mindframe will be "meh, my favorite character can't die." Kill off a few major players, however, and you've got the audience right where you want them.
I just know how to manipulate emotions.
DT: You really mean that?
Mechis: You should tell her about the short story you're gonna write...
DT: Oh! I was gonna write a short bit about a weredragon.
DT: No. Actually, he keeps his human memories intact when he transforms. He just loses the ability to communicate and gains instincts.
Machina: Reminds me of that old character of yours. William, I think was his name.
