Tetsuya Shibata's(Music composer of DMC 3 and DMC 4) loss to capcom

Hey everyone,

I jus have this gut feeling that reboot was because of no music from Tetsuya shibata as he is not with capcom anymore. I can't help but wonder why can't capcom hire other music directors and continue the original series.Music has been a vital part in DMC 3 and DMC 4. Not to mention DMC 1 and 2 also had good music. Before anyone says its not backed up that the loss of Tetsuya shibata was indeed the reason for the reboot. But i am speculating here. We have not had a DMC game in quite some time now. I bought a PS4 hoping we would get a new DMC game. But TBH, His loss is the greatest loss to DMC series according to me.

They decided to reboot the series cause they lost the music composer? That's a new. I find it hard to believe.

I kinda doubt it, music composers come and go, video games aren't any different.

Dude, whatever you're on you better share. XD
No, just no, series are not rebooted just because music composer is no longer around, even then Tetsuya Shibata was not the only one they had on the project. Heck, he wasn't even around for the first game, he is first credited for DMC2.

I am jus speculating. But music has been a big part in DMC games. Its probably one of the aesthetics of the game. Which is why i think there was a radical departure in music of reboot compared to original classical series. There are other good music composers out there. For example Masafumi takada, composer of godhand, can be a good choice to continue the original series with.

I think it's more Inafune had his western inititiave and DMC was picked because the team moved on to go do other things( re6, mvc3, dragon's dogma etc).

I don't think they knew it was gonna be as big a deal as it snowballed into.

Shibata's compositions were alright, but IMO, they don't even come close to the ambient sounds and memorable songs that Masami Ueda and Team Little Devils composed for DMC1. You can see a lot of musical throwbacks to that game in Shibata's work, re-using cues from "Locked and Loaded" and "Public Enemy" in a lot of later tracks.

Having said that, I also think Capcom's more recent game soundtracks have benefited just fine from their current batch of composers. Sengoku Basara 3 and Dragon's Dogma both have killer soundtracks...if Capcom just migrated the composition teams from both games to work on a DMC title, it'd probably tower over practically anything Shibata's musically done so far.
