Capcom has major unannounced title planned for 2018 release

After disappointing sales of outsourced titles in the 2012 fiscal year (03/31/12-03/31/13), Capcom cancelled a number of projects in early development in early 2013 and initiated a company-wide restructure, which included shifting most titles, including all major titles, to internal development.

Technically speaking it's more or less that amount of time since DMC4SE. Also, FB's Capcom France launched some "what's your favourite quote" and out of the 4 main ones, they took two from Devil May Cry.

I have no idea, but its official Wikipedia page still states it as an "upcoming title" as of right now. But honestly, the more I read about that game's synopsis, the more I just hope Capcom abandons it as sacrificial means of developing Dragon's Dogma 2....you know, a sequel to that open-world dungeon-crawler game that ALREADY EXISTS? :shifty:

A remake of Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers wouldn't be considered a major title though.

I'll be the first to admit the amount of unbridled disappointment that clings to each Capcom announcement of a "new major title" that ends up being some port of an already-existing game, but Chronicles of Mystara was in dire need of a release of some kind. It's only home release outside of arcades prior to 2012 was a shoddy Japanese-only port for the Saturn.

A ton of Capcom arcade games of that era still haven't been re-released at all.

There's nothing like that in any of their quarterly or yearly financial reports. If those titles were referred to as such, it will have been elsewhere or done by games media.

From what I've seen, only titles in major franchises like RE, MH, SF, DR and DMC and AAA titles like Dragon's Dogma will be referred to as major titles.

I think its a possibility that we could get a new DMC title but it would just be announced. I dont see one coming out in 2018 unless they've been secretly working on it since 2016.

So maybe a 2019 release date?

Nowadays, most of announcements are done with the game being released within a year or so. Provided they work on it for quite an amount of time and them announcing it at E3, it's still possible that they release it before the fiscal year ends. Besides, a smaller gap between the announcement date and release date would allow Capcom to condensate their communication around the title. Which is quite needed if you ask me.

They were secretly working on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite since 2015. RE7 supposedly started development in early 2014. If the title Itsuno is announcing is DMC5, then he would have been working on it since late 2015 at the latest, since he first hinted at it in a tweet he made January 12th, 2016.

Capcom doesn't announce titles early anymore, and has been very consistent with that, so DMC5 would likely only release in 2018 if announced this year. Late 2017 is possible as well but unlikely, as Infinite is their big title for the second half of the year, and the chances of that being delayed until early 2018 are low.

Im not saying its bad call, but for somebody like me who dreams about new Onimusha and such, it was let down considering whole " major" stuff.

major title doesnt mean AAA game.

as of any impact full title in the eyes of developer. Considering that cap com's eyes are looking through the broken mirror, I wouldnt rely on their wording.

I'll reiterate that AAA titles and titles from Capcom's key/pillar franchises (which are RE, SF, DMC, DR, MH, seemingly Dragon's Dogma as of recently and, previously, Lost Planet) are typically considered major titles. The "smallest" titles listed, at least as far back as 2012, have been Operation Raccoon City, Revelations and Lost Planet 3.
