Should I play the HD collection

Just a short introduction.

~2 years ago I bought a PS4, my first console (well I had a SNES as a child but that is like 15 years ago)

played bloodborne and dark souls and loved it.

the last 2 months I played nioh and also liked it.

then I discovered the DMC series, and now I play the Dmc reboot and also like it very much.

Now my questions is, I have a ps3, should I buy the DMC hd collection and replay the old games?

Is it worth it ? Or will it feel clunky ? (example I tried playing dark souls 1 after 3, but couldn't enjoy it because it was just too slow and controls not so good)

Is there a way to play the original games with an emulator ? because that might have better performance then playing them on the ps3 ?

Another related question, If I have only time to play one DMC game, and are more interesting in gameplay than story, which should it be ?

You can play the first 3 on a PS2 emulator but they won't perform as well or look better than the HD collection.

If you're looking for the best gameplay, I can't but suggest DMC4. Although it can get pretty repetitive because of the crazy backtracking you do after the first half of the game (where you fight the same bosses and visit the same levels, but with a different character), the combat mechanics themeselves are regarded as one of the very best, if not the best, of the genre, when it comes to depth and technicality.

If the backtracking thing puts you off, then I would say go for DMC3 all the way. Its combat is only a little less deep than 4's, but it definitely feels like a more complete product overall.

Finally, if you're used to modern action games' controls, yes, the old DMCs can feel kinda clunky to control, especially the first one, as you can imagine. The general consensus is to avoid the second one like the plague.

Hope this was helpful.

It's worth it for DMC1 and DMC3 imo. They're both still a lot of fun, and have aged fairly well. DMC1 in HD imo looks amazing for a game that's now 16 years old.
