Devil May Cry: Legend of Sparda

When do you think we'll ever get a new DMC game that will tell the story of Sparda?

It would be nice for the developers to make one someday in the future if they want to keep the franchise going.

Think of Metal Gear Solid's Big Boss.

How do you picture that? We'll see him traveling the world and learning certain techniques. Plus how he met Eva.

I can just picture Jason David Frank acting as Sparda.

For the record, a good deal of veteran MGS fans are of opinion making so many games with Big Boss as protagonist actually ruined his character, so be careful what you wish for.
I guess I wouldn't mind one game about his rebellion or his more calmer days when he met Eva, but anything beyond that and we'll really lose the legend as he becomes just another man.

I've been long preached a Sparda prequel. Seeing his rebellion and experiencing it "first hand" in a full fledged game would really cement his legend, cause as of now, we've always been told he was a badass hero. Seeing it would be much better.

Though I agree that more games about him wouldn't make a lot of sense. Just do one prequel and that's it.

A prequel ? Maybe, in my opinion , is better a spin-off, named for example "The story of Sparda" or something of cool ,like "The legend of Sparda". Because the fifth canonic chapter is better to tell the story of how end all story of DMC, how continue DMC 2 etc.

I'd see Sparda finding Jesus and how he rebelled against his kind to defend humanity for God. He sees humanity having potential and that their souls are worth saving.

It's funny because I'm of the opposite opinion, that the Big Boss saga was the best bit of the MGS and Boss is a much more interesting character than Solid Snake.

So yeah, I think a single Sparda prequel could do so much for the franchise, open up the lore and set up villains to appear in DMC5 and onwards.

Only Jesus Sparda could find would be on a trip to Mexico. Hopefully, he didn't take disguise tips from Raiden.
There's no God in Christian meaning of the word, just gods that are actually most powerful demons in their nature, and by the way the legend makes it sound, Sparda was one of them.

It's why I said "good deal" and not all, different people have different taste and different opinion on same things, but from what I saw, while a lot loved MGS3, a lot are also of opinion it should have stopped there with the story of Big Boss. Difference in how the games play could have influenced that, but with legends people form their own amazed opinion only to have it ruined.

Also, excuse me, but nothing beats MGS1 when talking about the best part of the saga.

I'd love to see Sparda as an antagonist.
"Later he quietly reigned the human world" - doesn't that sound like a villain introduction? Imagine a game taking place in times of a rise of political/social awareness - maybe renaissance or the 18th century. We play as a demon hunter who discovers a horrible secret - world has been secretly controlled by the powerful demon for almost 2000 years! By the end of the game, Sparda could realize that what he did was wrong and decide to disappear for hundreds of years... To return in the 20th century, when he falls in love with Eva. Or maybe not - maybe he'd think that what he does is in the humanity's best interest and silences our protagonist to keep his existence a secret?

I prefer to see Sparda change his ways after the deaths of Peter, Paul and many of Jesus' disciples. He sees Jesus and turns away from his masters' evil in the name of Christ & humanity.

He disappears from the world as he travels as a wanderer. He learns many skills and gains certain allies. Of course he'll meet Eva in the 20th century, if he'll gain an outfit similar to his sons'. The Victorian outfit is his dress suit.

Nevan & Beowulf will be there.

Yeah, I'm just gonna splice two hours of this together...

So that in the end, it plays like this:

It's better than waiting for a game that may (or may not) be announced this year...

I'm fond of a Sparda series because he's lived over 2000+ years so that's a lot of material/potential to mine. Plus I've lost interest in Dante as the lead so it be a cool change of pace.

So yeah a prequel showcasing how sparda became a legend would be cool. I get the concern over ruining people's images of Sparda but to me the risk is worth it

I'd personally leave Sparda out as a playable protagonist for an entire DMC game. I think he'd be too OP (this IS the legendary dark knight Sparda we're talking about) the same demonic God that took on Hell and won.

Though they never explained how he went about it, so with some careful writing you could craft a compelling story about how Sparda managed to go on a quest to become stronger, defeat Mundus and finally to seal away Hell. All without making him too OP or taking away from his badassery.

But do I expect Capcom to be capable of that level of story writing? Let's just say I won't get my hopes up.

@Izzy: I personally wouldn't deem Capcom as capable of executing something as deep and compelling as Sparda's quest to defeat demonkind.

Personally I'd prefer it if the story kept moving forward as Dante is the one that I'm invested in and I'm always interested in where he goes next. I always felt that Sparda works best as his backstory as there's a lot of mystery surrounding him and the best way to ruin the character is to explain away the mystery - he's less of a legend if we know exactly what he did. Admittedly I've never understood the fans asking for a Sparda game but if they did make one I'd still play it but like I said I'm way more invested in Dante/Vergil/Nero and I like Sparda being a bit nebulous as he is only what people say he is and that, I think, is the only way he is ever interesting.

if there are gods in DMC I doubt they'd be the likes of Jesus, I think they'd take a more eastern approach to gods and such, just as they have with demons, and I think it would cause a lot of controversy to actively portray jesus in a video game, I can't think of one that has done so yet purely for this reason. I especially think DMC doesn't follow the christian mythology because of mundus, he was there instead of Satan. They might take elements from it like maybe incorporating the arc and such but I don't see them portraying any major religious figures anytime soon

I wish they did.

Since seeing Metal Gear's Big Boss story:
Snake Eater -> Portable Ops -> Peace Walker -> Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain

Wonder how they'll make a Sparda arc telling about his story.

I know he's left as a mystery, but it'd be nice to see glimpses of Sparda's life before he turned against his kind for humanity & God.

Sparda's pretty old as a character so you would have lots of wiggle room.

a whole 2000+ years to play with.

Sparda would have to be traveling all over the world.

How about after defecting the demon race, he travels the world mastering his skills before meeting Eva. Perhaps in the game it'll explain how Sparda obtained his Victorian outfit. But how do you picture his demon slayer outfit? Vergil's feels Victorian while Dante's is all modern plus with one looking cowboyish.

He can obtain Victorian guns that were Luce & Ombra before "reincarnating" into modern handguns.
