One of the games that interested me the most at VGX this year and seemed to come out of nowhere. It has generated quite a buzz since its announcement even though it is only being developed by a 4 man development team from London known as Hello Games (Joe Danger). Incredibly ambitious for such a small team to take on such a project and im excited to see the end product as it looks really unique. Though for such a tiny team I can see it being delayed as cant see how they can develop it in this timeframe.

SixAxis description of the game

No Man’s Sky features procedural environments and seems like a huge game, in which you can explore planets. As you can see in the trailer above, you can explore these worlds by foot, by swimming, or even by flying into space. It’s all about exploration, and the environments are huge, so you can explore mountains miles away or visit entire other solar systems.

It looks quite incredible and also features combat, either in the ships or on foot. Whether it’s always online wasn’t answered, though the Universe is said to be shared.

VGX: Hello Games’ Sci-Fi Exploration Game No Man’s Sky Detailed

Aww it's 1stPeople view.
Looks nice though.
Just the beginning of possibilities, this is what i expect from games since the PS2 gen. Not gimmicks, touch screen, voice activation nonsense but games that expand possibilities of vast detailed worlds with it's own mysteries to explore.

Just imagine an environment like this, part of a jungle that vast & detailed for Uncharted, TombRaider, LastOfUs.
Games like that setup in worlds with no rails or invisible scripted walls.
There's actually another game like No Man's Sky.
It's called Infinity (still in the works)
But...let's just say this.
It's. Huge.
Though it's been quiet for a while...I fear it's dead.

There are a handful of Sci-Fi styled games of this type showing their faces recently I have noticed. I have a lot of respect for these guys trying a project as ambitious as this with such a small team. I mean Sean Murray even sold his house to help fund previous game Joe Danger. These are the type of developers we should be getting behind, the ones who love the industry, want to break new ground and reach for the stars but still ooze humility. Not in it to make a quick buck but for their passion for the industry and will always try to deliver in the end.

In a continuing streak of bad luck, developer Hello Games found that the damage to its office last week won't be covered by flood insurance. Microsoft's Phil Spencer said he had heard about the studio's situation on Twitter, and that he is "going to look into it."

Hello Games is the developer behind No Man's Sky, the procedurally generated MMO that captured audiences' attention earlier this month. Floods devastated the studio last week, the team said, destroying pretty much "everything in the office." The team said that efforts with insurance claims failed, as living in a flood risk zone prevents flood coverage.

The team has been taking stock, saying it will come back stronger.

"All we'll need is a place to work and a machine to work on."

Such a shame they were so badly affected by the floods & I'm glad they didn't lose anything major. Hoping they can replace most things & crack on with the game as soon as possible.

After they were hit by bad floods and lost most of their office equipment after wowing everyone at VGX many were worried about them getting back on track (being only 4 guys). However Hello Games are back and again wowed many people at E3 this time with their latest trailers (unveiled in the Sony conference), they have created quite a buzz between other gaming studios thats for sure. For a team consisting of 4 members the game is amazingly ambitious and cant wait to see the end product as the tech just looks mindblowing with so many possibilities. Announced for PS4 but also coming to XB1 and PC.

Everyone I have spoke to loved look of it and quite a buzz between other gaming studios about it, friends keep saying that its the game Spore should have been. Though I am worried that such a small team can pull this off in this time scale, its a HUGE project that looks like it would take many more years to fully reach what its meant to be and their overall vision. The buzz and hype might end up being the games downfall but hopefully they can deliver everything in time and gamers give them the chance to fulfill its potential.

PlayStation blog page suggests No Man's Sky will be full-priced release

No Man's Sky will be a full priced release and pre-orders for the game will open tomorrow.
That's according to details posted on the PlayStation blog last night, which were then swiftly removed.
Hello Games' intergalactic sandbox was listed at $59.99 - the standard RRP for physical PS4 launches, so likely around £45 in the UK.

Quite eager to see the final product here and while a full-price release was...well...imminent, I sincerely hope it lives ujp to the hype!

I can't wait for this game, even if it ends up not having much in the way of gameplay the actual exploration alone seems fascinating to me. I sat through the entire VGX for a nintendo announcement(which ended up being nothing) and this is the only thing that interested me.

No Man's Sky goes gold after four years in development

http://hexus.net/gaming/news/industry/94363-no-mans-sky-goes-gold-four-years-development/
The release date is finally nailed on and the game will hit shelves on August 10th in the UK and Europe, and August 9th in North America. They have also revealed that despite the game having roughly 18 quintillion planets, No Man's Sky will only actually take up 6GB of storage data on disc and most is audio files (some major servers needed I imagine) and they are already working on the first update.

WARNING TO EARLY PLAYERS AFTER SOME RETAIL
ERS BROKE STREET DATE

No Man's Sky has an enormous day one patch that adds multiple endings

The day one update is 824MB in size (the game itself is just 3.69GB) and will go live at some point today for those with early copies.

Its changes will not be applied to existing save files, however. This means anyone who has been enjoying the game already will need to start again to see the changes.

No Man's Sky day one patch notes

No Man's Sky day one patch notes

  • The Three Paths - there are now new, unique "paths" you can follow throughout the game. You must start the game on a fresh save, with the patch, as early choices have significant impact on what you see later in the game, and the overall experience.
  • The Universe - we changed the rules of the universe generation algorithm. Planets have moved. Environments have changed biomes. Galaxies have altered shape. All to create greater variety earlier. Galaxies are now up to 10x larger.
  • Diversity - Creatures are now more diverse in terms of ecology and densities on planets.
  • Planets - we've added dead moons, low atmosphere and extreme hazardous planets. Extreme hazards include blizzards and dust storms.
  • Atmosphere - space, night time and day skies are now 4x more varied due to new atmospheric system, which refracts light more accurately to allow for more intense sunsets.
  • Planet rotation - play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it's effects have been reduced further...
  • Terrain generation - caves up to 128m tall are now possible. Geometric anomalies have been added. Underwater erosion now leads to more interesting sea beds.
  • Ship diversity - a wider variety of ships appear per star system, and are available to purchase. Cargo and installed technology now vary more, and ships have more unique attributes.
  • Inventory - ship inventories now store 5 times more resources per slot. Suit inventories now store 2.5 times more per slot. This encourages exploration and gives freedom from the beginning. We're probably going to increase this even further in the next update, for people in the latter game phases, and will allow greater trading potential.
  • Trading - trading is deeper. Star systems and planets each have their own wants and needs, based off a galactic economy. Observing these is the key to successful trading. We still working on adjusting this based on how everyone plays, but all trading values have been rebalanced across the galaxy, giving a greater depth. A bunch of trade exploits were uncovered and have been removed
  • Feeding - creatures now have their own diet, based on planet and climate. Feeding them correctly will yield different results per species, such as mining for you, protecting the player, becoming pets, alerting you to rare loot or pooping valuable resources.
  • Survival - recharging hazard protection requires rare resources, making shielding shards useful again. Storms can be deadly. Hazard protection and suit upgrades have been added. Liquids are often more dangerous
  • Graphical effects - Lighting and texture resolution have been improved. Shadow quality has doubled. Temporal AA didn't make it in time, but it's so close
