Hey IncarnatedDemon :D
Remember the DmC article I posted about the game's poor sales and fans not being to blame? Well I've been mulling it over ever since then and today I launched a YouTube channel through eGamer: http://www.youtube.com/user/eGamerZA/
It will take time to start up, but...
Chancey, you should be careful with how you're conveying your point because the biggest flaw in your logic is the assumption that characters should be contemporary and/or realistic.
Again, Dante was never designed to be a deep, complex character for a "mature" audience. It's completely alright...
Yes and no Cherry. You're pretty close to how it works, in fact almost knocking on the door. I spoke about paid reviews in-depth in this article: http://egamer.co.za/2013/02/take-it-from-a-game-critic-2-integrity-and-critical-thinking-are-essential-for-reviewers-but-theyre-lacking-today/
But...
I agree with you, but that what I highlighted in bold is the mentality many gamers and journalists take to an extreme and feel that they absolutely have to show gratitude to developers and publishers because we have games, even if that means suffering at the hands of bad practices or...
@IncarnatedDemon
Hahaha I side with you bro, I've written I think 3 or 4 pieces criticizing reviewers, reviews, the review system and mentality of critics. If there's one topic I've spoken about to death, it's that one ;P
@Martius
By "bribed" I was simply quoting the word used by the earlier...
I'm completely aware of that, but in truth it's not just the gaming industry. A lot of journalism is tainted, but it's not all bad as long as you find an outlet you trust. For example, I read SkySports because I'm a football fanatic, but it's some of the worst journalism I have ever seen because...
@
Yes!! It's Kirby dressed as Solid Snake :D <3
Thank you! Yes, absolutely, I mentioned a number of those in the article as well, you're spot on.
@IncarnatedDemon and @SugarMoon
I'm flattered, and I really appreciate that :D But I don't think a youtube channel is on the cards for me...
I definitely agree with your list of "who is to blame".
The thing that disappoints me most though, IncarnatedDemon, is the media, and that's because I'm a journalist and games reviewer myself (for eGamer, a South African site). Our priority is supposed to be to consumers/gamers first, and...
Again, you're making a fair point, but for Dante and his fans I don't think it really had anything to do with depth so much as it had to do with style. Devil May Cry has never featured a complex story or complex characters. Fans loved Dante for capturing "bad ass", for his traits, for being an...
This is true Winterfrost, but what put the nail in the coffin was that the game did reach 1 million units sold, but just two weeks after it launched Capcom reduced the sales target from 2million down to 1.2 million (an 800 000 reduction) which is extremely worrying as it revealed they didn't...
@Chancy
Fair, but you've got to keep in mind that your attachment (or lack thereof) to the character is your own. From your sig it's revealing that you're a big fan of the Joker. If the Joker's hair, outfit, personality and gear were dramatically changed (for the reasons the DmC creators gave)...
Thank you! =) I've been unsuccessfully trying to get it back on topic, but I do very much appreciate anyone who did try as well and focus on the article :) Hopefully it's still salvageable.
Okay. I'm getting tired of this debate because it's detracting from the real topic here and is just annoying people.
So let me prove you wrong with the facts, in chronological order for your easy understanding, Chancey. Because I know where to find the articles on eGamer, I will reference...
In the hope to salvage some discussion here, Chancey I hope you read the article.
It really has nothing to do with DmC and whether or not it was a good or bad game. You're in the wrong thread for that discussion.
The first two pages seemed to have the right idea for discussion, and I found...
The unfortunate part for me (OP) is that the article I linked had absolutely nothing to do with Devil May Cry 4 or even DmC: Devil May Cry itself as a game. It was about fans and sales performance.
But I guess YOLO. People don't read and stuff :P
