I wasn't super into how Scalebound looked and this seems to be trying to go in that direction, so I'm a little disappointed that they're trading in-depth character action for big bunga monster fights. The new monsters don't look nearly as memorable as the angels or demons either.
I'm surprised that Capcom are still acknowledging that 2 and the reboot exist. Though, with the opinions on them having swung more towards "they did a shocking amount right for what they had" I'm not super surprised in hindsight.
Yeah I don't want to die quickly. lol I'm using heavy armor this time, along with single sword and odachi. Single sword for most situations, odachi for revenants and humanoid bosses to break their guard.

No, Dante has an unarmed 3-hit combo while you have Round Trip active. Does about as much damage as Alastor slashes, so it's a viable melee option if you're cornered.
