Oh, I don't know about that. You'd be surprised how many sequels Disney will greenlight before they admit their new direction is wrong.
I will say, watching the two movies back to back, you can really tell that they were directed by different people. The fact that Johnson claims to not have seen TFA before writing TLJ doesn't surprise me with the number of plot threads from the former dropped/contradicted in the latter.
And so it feels like J.J Abrams has been dealt a raw hand since he has to direct Episode IX, following on from Rian Johnson's controversial film and no matter which way he goes it looks destined to cause upset.
