Something really weird occured today when I started off DmC on Steam: my save file was completely gone. Luckily, since I only started playing yesterday, it only took me a little while to catch up again, but I fear that it might do that again. So in other to prevent that, is there a way I can find the save data on my computer and back it up somewhere else in case it happens again?

And while I'm at it, has anyone else had a similar problem with the game? Worth mentioning that first time I played it was on offline mode, but when I started the game today I was online. Going back to offline mode still had the file missing, but I dunno if what I did was the cause of the issue.

Not with DmC, but I had a similar problem with another game on Steam. All I had to do was restart Steam though.
To change the save settings, go to your Library, right click on DmC>Properties>Updates>Unmark "Enable Steam Cloud(...)"

I cannot unnmark it. The option appears in gray text so I can't click over it, but the box appears checked.

DmC has done this to me twice now, so unless I can find a fix I guess I can't play it.

I was online the whole time so it can't be that.

Yeah I personally want to figure out where save files are located at so I can switch between different save files. Especially since I have DmC on my laptop now.

Steam is effing weird about where it stores save files. Some go into My Documents folder, some go into the Steam folder, several games tuck their files away in my invisible AppData folder under my user name. I have to do a treasure hunt every time I want to back my files up.

DMC4's save files go into My Documents for me, but DmC might stash them in AppData (which is prone to losing stuff when you clean up your PC as I learned the hard way). If you're on Windows 7, make all your folders visible, then go to My Computer > C: > Users > Your Name > AppData > Roaming. Look for Capcom's name. Adjust as needed for Windows 8 differences.

It's not Steam's fault, really. The developers choose where they want the files to be. Mostly it's either in My Documents or in the game's folder.
Although most Steam games now have Steam Cloud, so the save isn't anywhere in your PC, unless you unmark the box for SC.
