It was great, I loved it. BUT I haven't seen the anime/read the manga so I was fairly open minded to it.

Haven't read the manga, watched the anime though. For the most part it was like a condensed adaptation of the first half of season 1 of the anime. They took a few threads out for pacing, but managed to keep the tone of the story.
