what was else to expect. :/ After reading some comments it seems that the only way they would have allowed this movie to be made if Han was black transgender female.
@Innsmouth Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan, and the rest of the midguided farts over at modern Lucasfilm are so preoccupied with diversity and nostalgia-pandering that it's sickening to watch. Here's hoping they don't force the same controlling BS over Dave Filoni & Lucasfilm Animation. The CG Shows are the only good Star Wars-related things these days.
Its only matter of time before everything will be transformed in "diverse" surrounding and basked "waves of love". Seriously nowadays everything must be about diversity. Not about interesting characters. Just today I saw comment "b b b but why do we need han solo film with those filthy white characters". ugh….
@Innsmouth, I worry Homecoming's gonna tank for those same reasons. "Oh, let's replace caucasian Flash with an ethnic Flash that isn't even a proper bully!" "Steve, can you check the comics for a black love interest?" "I checked sir. No black love interests." "What about Liz Allen?" "She's white, sir." "Doesn't matter. We'll make her black"
@Teal I'm actually not worried about anything in regards to Marvel, because no one pushes agenda crap on Kevin Feige or Marvel Studios to satisfy any quotas. They're allowed to operate how they want...this is all Lucasfilm's moronic decisions all on their own.
@Z218 I'd love to believe that Lucasfilm are prioritizing authenticity, but I've already seen their commitment to nostalgia over good storytelling already in TFA.
I'm just saying; it seems like you guys are saying diversity is the problem rather then the people forcing it. and Marvel comics DID push that diversity agenda hard and in the worst way. And the MCU is way too safe to even bother to try being diverse or take an actual risk. Its why its so successful now.
Diversity IS a problem. Because those who push for it think that just by changing ethnicity or gender they automatically make character interesting. Which is not the case, because interesting character decided by writing not by his skin.
@DragonMaster2010 If you look back at my comments, you'll note that the agenda I ever accuse Lucasfilm of pushing is catering to nostalgia, not forced diversity. But in regards to what @Innsmouth complains about, I can say as a child of two ethnic minorities that diversity in casting has never once been a priority for me. I rarely see my race(s) represented on screen, but I care so little about that.
But it's NOT the diversity, it's the people pushing it. Diversity can be good if its done in a way that's not pandering or just thrown in there just to be thrown in there (i.e. The human torch being black for the hell of it/all female ghostbusters because "F*** nerdy men".
I didn't get into my favorite franchises because of their racial variety, I've ONLY ever cared about diversity in personality and traits, and richness of storytelling. This is where TFA and R1, even with their swath of races and genders, fail miserably...and Rebels, with a 1/16th of the budget and a main cast that's half comprised of aliens, succeeds. They're characters, not marks on a token minority checklist.
@WolfOD64 I know. I was referring to the discussion of diversity being an agenda in itself. Yeah, you may not care, but a lot of other people do, and like I said, its not the concept, but the people pushing it.
