I guess they were trying to avoid giving into stereotypes by making the ancient Zen Master Chinese, since that's considered stereotypical. As ludicrous as that sounds, I can imagine a lot of today's oversensitive snowflakes freaking out about an old wise Chinese man being Dr. Strange's mentor.

A few points: I actually like Tilda (especially in Constantine, take that DM) -- but here's the part I really enjoy.

I'm almost certain that the director is using "diversity" as a tactic to hit back against the left wing. They always use that word, so why not use it back to troll them (like this, for example)?

Wouldnt it have been more easier/important to cast an asian actor for Dr. strange?

@Z218 apparently because of Tibet and Nepal's current dislike for each other, the director decided to not do that, and just cast Tilda.
