Whatever. I'm still trying to understand why the hell Asian people are considered yellow and we are considered white. Our skin ain't white and theirs ain't yellow.
My problem is that they could've chose an asian actress, or hell an asian cast to play the characters, but just went with mostly white people. Not even a black actor for heaven's sake. I dunno maybe I am just whining about it, but still. Plus Mary's a voice actress. There's a difference.
@DragonMaster2010 They probably just hired local talent for mainstream appeal. Same thing happened for Edge of Tomorrow, albeit an incident that fared far better with talent like Tom Cruise. I have no problem with that...as long as the WESTERN talent is actually good. Hell, Japan did the same thing when they remade Unforgiven with all Asian actors.
But with the JP Unforgiven is that they changed their names to Japaneses and the story took place in Japan, rather then be Japanese in the West with American names.
@DragonMaster2010 True. I guess this whole whitewashing business doesn't really bother someone like me...especially when the subject matter is as universal as cyberpunk. I just wish they had cast someone like Angelina Jolie...or hell, Kate Beckinsdale. Both have the frigid, calculating nature of Kusanagi down in most of the roles they play...as opposed to Johansson's lame attempt at "bad girl sass."
I do agree with that though. Like I'm still annoyed with the whitewashing, but at the very least, they could've got a better actress then the overrated Johansson.
@DragonMaster2010 That's all I'm saying. If picking a Japanese actress was completely out of the question, what was stopping these people from hiring someone who's actually competent?
