I hear you loud and clear. My advice to you is to start seeing yourself as a single fan instead of part of a fanbase. That way your opinion and what the games made you feel will be all that matters.

Kamiya wanted something like the Final Fantasy series where each game had its own cast of characters.

In that case, DMC2 would've starred his alleged son as what he said to Mundus at the near end of DMC1. DMC3 would've been Nero (Sparda's descendant as what Sanctus said) or someone similar to him. And so forth for the next games...
So DMC wouldn't just revolved around Dante since each beginning had the story of Sparda told again and again...
