From previous experience, I've seen this sort of thing start. The death note-pic I throwed there was a remark of that. The story starts just because a boy is bored, then becomes a story of death with people killing each other, and everyone thinking he/she was justice. This is an extreme example, and not too appropriate, but it came easily to me, being a death note fan and all.

The last time this happened, the discussion had started about something completely trivial (another forum) and transformed little by little into a flame. A flame with reasonable points and facts, without cursing, but a flame nevertheless. People were each trying (extremely hard if I might add) to prove their faction's point by saying crual things and punishments etc.

The topic wasn't too much different from this one. It was about the Death Penalty. The members there didn't openly /hate/ each other, but in the end grudges etc were kept, and it was hell.

I saw almost exactly the same signs here, and some members even notified me of this.

Maybe I was wrong, and we would keep the discussion pretty civil, but since I saw the EXACT same signs (some posts had even similar points to that other thread) I rushed to stop it. Thank you for asking nevertheless I prefer being asked, than people just say he's a mod/he had a right to do it, so leave it at that. If I'm wrong I want others to say it to me, so we might discuss it and reach a /deal/

You sir deserve a medal for fighting the 420 character limit to the extreme. Stick it to the man!

I hear you on that. I can't really say you're wrong in doing it, you can't exactly say it was the right thing to do; pre-crime can be a slippery fish.
I agree it could very easily have erupted into something way out of proportion. Very good chance, that.

Maybe I'm just so used to seeing it happen that I see the moderating necessary only when damage is actually being done. Whether your way is better I have no idea. I've never seen this sort of a solution before on PEGO, DMC, or REN.

To be honest the main reason I signed up here was because I heard it was getting way out of control. Projectego is huge on debates and such so I thought it would be a fun social experiment to hop on and start calling people out. People have gotten more mature since then, so it's possible that I was just hoping to see something pan out without hurt feelings.

Not that any of that matters. At the end of the day you're in charge. I'm not going to argue for you to reopen it unless a lot of people want it to happen. I only want it open for personal reasons, it's not like I was in the heat of debate and dying to point out something else.

In any case, potential disaster averted. Any chance I could read the older thread you mentioned? I'm curious if I can pick out some of these signs for myself.

To be perfectly honest with you, I'm not exactly 100% sure of it myself, we'll probably all see in the future. However, in that particular subject the feeling it's-happening-again made me think it was probably for the best

About some of your other points that I missed while I was writing the previous message:
When I signed up here, I had the exact opposite feeling about this place, than yours. Everyone here was so much better than, well, some other forums, and I was really glad I was able to discuss stuff without no one coming back to criticise me or insult me, just because he or she could.

Therefore I loved this site imediately! I'm sorry to hear that when you joined, it was because it wasn't going well..

Oh, and about the thread. I think I /COULD/ actually find something, - but it's probably in greek. If you're ok with google translate etc. and I find it, I'll have no problem to provide you with it.

As for being in charge, in the end I hope I make the right choices. If I don't, I DO want others to point it out. I might have been wrong - we all are at times.

Sure. I've never tried to Google translate Greek but I could give it a shot. Honestly the reason I was interested in joining is because other than Pego it was the only other site of Steve's that was pretty active. It is miles better than most forums on the internet though, I'll grant you that.

It's also miles better now than it was back then. Angel quit being an admin for a while because things were so ridiculous. But I digress... it's better now and she's back. Even if things are much more civil here, a lot of people do need to work on growing a thicker skin; be it for taking constructive criticism or being able to read a different opinion without getting angry.

I'm glad that you liked it when you came, and I'm glad that you were MIA when there was so much drama. It's worth pointing out that the drama wasn't really isolated to one threads progression... DmC was revealed and all hell broke loose in just about every thread.

One last note: you should be careful socializing with me. I came in to play the bad guy and trying to whip some sense into the problem members. I think it's had some lasting effect on how a lot of members see me. I don't mind it at all. It's nice in a strange way to have that sort of respect.

Ι'll sent you the thread in a PM. I'm not sure it's this particular thread I mentioned, but it speaks of a cop killing (accidentally) someone - meaning it's a serious thread - and then goes on for 27 pages, with curses and what not, just because people in the end couldn't agree to disagree.

Also, I socialize with whoever I wantXD If I see you as a bad guy, then I'll stop, but for now we're cool. As long as I've been here I haven't seen you do anything bad
