Devil May Cry 3 HD Trophy Guide

Chaos Raiden

Avid Gamer & Reviewer
Estimated Time: 30 - 50 hours
Difficulty: 9/10
Minimum Playthroughs: 7 playthroughs (1 for Dante playthrough on Normal Mode, 1 for Dante or Vergil playthrough on Hard Mode, 1 for Dante or Vergil playthrough on Very Hard Mode, 1 for Dante or Vergil on Dante Must Die Mode, 1 for Dante or Vergil on Heaven or Hell playthrough, and 1 for Bloody Palace playthrough)

Guidelines
If you are attempting to get the Platinum for this game with less difficulty, always load back your save file after completing the game to continue the game with all of your bought skills and items in a new difficulty mode. This game allows you to select any completed Missions, so you can go back to any Missions to get back any missed Blue Orb Fragments, weapons, or farm Red Orbs and Gold Orbs.

In this game, Dante has a lot of access to a variety of skills, thanks to the new Styles system. Also, some enemies in this game have weaknesses that you can exploit by using the correct Devil Arms. Once you have completed the game once as Dante, you will unlock Vergil. Vergil has less variety of moves compared to Dante, but his movesets can deal higher damage and as well as easier to pull off. Personally, using Vergil is a lot easier than Dante in some ways, as well as more easier to use him to complete DMD mode.

Hell of a Start

Description: Finish the game on Normal Mode with any character
Difficulty: 7/10
How to get it: Complete the game on Normal Mode with either Dante or Vergil. Not too difficult for DMC fans, but could be difficult for newcomers of DMC series. You can unlock this Trophy with Vergil if you completed the first playthrough with Dante on Easy Mode, then use Vergil on Normal Mode. If you want to get the Platinum, start the game with Gold Orb mode.

The final Vergil boss fight is simple, but can be difficult as Vergil is more prone to use D.T. and Trick skills. Just always remember to dodge whenever you can and attack him when he is exposed. Beowulf is the best weapon against hims, as both Dante or Vergil.

Gone to Hell

Description: Finish the game on Hard Mode with any character
Difficulty: 7/10
How to get it: Complete the game on Hard Mode with either Dante or Vergil. It is slightly more difficult than Normal Mode, as enemies can hit harder and have slightly more health. This time, you have access to every weapon, so you can use them to exploit many early boss's weaknesses for easy win, such as Hell Vanguard's weakness is Beowulf. Hard Mode is unlocked by beating the game in Normal Mode.

Completing Hard Mode with either Dante or Vergil will unlock new costumes, but Dante's costumes are purely cosmetic. Vergil's newly unlocked costume however, allows him to Devil Trigger to Nelo Angelo form, with new sets of skills. Depending on your playstyle, I suggest that you stick to regular D.T. form.

To Hell and Back

Description: Finish the game on Very Hard Mode with any character
Difficulty: 8/10
How to get it: Complete the game on Very Hard Mode with either Dante or Vergil. It is more difficult than Hard Mode, as enemies can hit harder and have slightly more health. This time, you have access to every weapon, so you can use them to exploit many early boss's weaknesses for easy win, such as Hell Vanguard's weakness is Beowulf. Very Hard Mode is unlocked by beating the game in Hard Mode.

Completing Very Hard Mode with either Dante or Vergil will unlock their Super costumes. Both Super Dante and Super Vergil has now semi-unlimited Devil Trigger that will not deplete upon using Devil Trigger form. However, any moves that consumes Devil Trigger gauge will still apply, such as Spiral Swords, Doppelganger Style, and Quicksilver Style. Also, using Super costumes will not allow either Dante or Vergil to regenerate health during D.T form.

Hell Hath no Fury

Description: Finish the game on Dante Must Die Mode with any character
Difficulty: 9/10
How to get it: Complete the game on Dante Must Die Mode with either Dante or Vergil. It is more difficult than Very Hard Mode, as enemies can hit harder and have slightly more health. Enemies now also use D.T., making them more harder to beat. Like in the first Devil May Cry game, you should skip any areas that do not have mandatory fights to save time and your health. Bosses are also much tougher, and it is recommended to use the boss's weaknesses to defeat them easily. Dante Must Die Mode is unlocked by beating the game in Very Hard Mode.

Preparation for this mode is to stock up every items, learn all Skills, and upgrade your weapons. For Dante, he should have full health bar and D.T. gauge, learned all Skills, maximum levels for every Style, and fully upgraded weapons. For Vergil, he also should have full health bar and D.T. gauge, learned all Skills, maximum level for his DarkSlayer Style, and fully upgraded Summoned Swords. Spiral Swords is invaluable when fighting in this game, even in DMD mode. Items should be stocked up as much as possible, such as Vital Stars, Devil Stars, and Holy Waters. It is also recommended to play this mode in Gold Orb mode, as it allows you to revive on the spot if you are killed by an attack.

I recommend Vergil for DMD mode playthrough. That is because using Vergil allows me to focus more on offense in DMD mode, as his Spiral Swords allow me to interrupt regular enemy attacks as well as inflicting damage at the same time when using another weapon. His Beowulf is especially powerful against many enemies in the game, and I often use his Lunar Phase and Starfall on enemies.

Dante is also recommended, but many of his moves are not so highly-damaging against enemies. His more powerful moves however are more difficult to pull of due to slightly more complicated button presses. Swordmaster and RoyalGuard Styles are the most recommended Styles to be used in DMD mode. Kalina Ann and Shotgun are also effective in this mode as well.

Completing Dante Must Die Mode with either Dante or Vergil will unlock their Super Legendary Dark Knight and Super Corrupt Vergil. Both costumes now allow both Dante or Vergil to unlimited D.T., as well as health regeneration. Using these costumes will make the completion of Bloody Palace even more easier.

Heaven Can Wait

Description: Finish the game on Heaven or Hell Mode with any character
Difficulty: 1/10
How to get it: Complete the game on Dante Must Die Mode with either Dante or Vergil. Very easy, since one hit from you will kill an enemy instantly, including bosses. However, you will also die with one hit, so be careful.

7S7b2ded.png
Am I My Brother's Keeper

Description: Finish the game on any difficulty with Vergil
Difficulty: 1/10
How to get it: Complete the game with Vergil on any mode. Simple, complete the game as Vergil. Understand that Vergil has different skillsets than Dante, but many of his moves are more potent. A good comparison is Vergil's Starfall and Dante's Killer Bee. You can see the difference especially when damaging bosses using these two moves. Also, remember to buy Spiral Swords as it is Vergil's most useful move in the game.

Worst Kept Secret

Description: Complete a Secret Mission with any character
Difficulty: 2/10
How to get it: Complete a Secret Mission with either Dante or Vergil to get this Trophy. Secret Missions guide can be read here: http://devilmaycry.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Devil_May_Cry_3_Secret_Missions

Left No Stone Unturned

Description: Complete all Secret Missions with any character
Difficulty: 7/10
How to get it: Complete all Secret Missions with either Dante or Vergil to get this Trophy. It is recommended to complete all Secret Missions as Dante, as he has a lot of moves that allow him to complete the Secret Missions easily. Completing them with Vergil is possible, but slightly harder as he does not have Air Hike.

Secret Missions guide can be read here: http://devilmaycry.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Devil_May_Cry_3_Secret_Missions

To Hell With That

Description: Kill 100 enemies during the credits
Difficulty: 2/10
How to get it: Kill 100 enemies during credits using either Dante or Vergil on Mission 20. As Dante, use Beowulf, Rebellion and Kalina Ann to fight them faster. The 100th enemy will always be Hell Vanguard, so use Beowulf to kill him quickly. As Vergil, constantly uses Beowulf and Spiral Swords.

Blood, Sweat and Tears

Description: Pass 666 levels in Bloody Palace Mode
Difficulty: 4/10
How to get it: Ascend 666 levels in Bloody Palace. You will fight waves of enemies in each level you reached, with increasing difficulty as you ascend more levels. Unlike the second game, you cannot use items in Bloody Palace mode.

As you complete a level, there will be three different portals. Water portal allows you to ascend 1 level, thunder portal allows you to ascend 10 levels, and fire portal allows you to ascend 100 levels. Completing a water portal level rewards you with Green Orb to restore your Health Bar, completing a thunder portal level rewards you with White Orb to restore your D.T. gauge, but fire portal levels do not reward anything. Generally, going through with fire portals will help you to complete the Bloody Palace faster, albeit with difficulties. As you use every ten portals, you have to fight bosses.

I highly suggest you to attempt to get this Trophy once you have Super Legendary Dark Knight or Super Corrupt Vergil costumes, as their unlimited D.T. gauge and unlimited health regeneration will make the whole Bloody Palace mode super easy.

Description: Pass 5000 levels in Bloody Palace Mode

Devilish Deed

Description: Achieve an S Rank on any mission with any character
Difficulty: 4/10
How to get it: Get an S Rank on any mission using Dante or Vergil. Personally, Mission 1, Mission 13, and Mission 20 are the easiest missions to get an S Rank, but it requires some practice to do so.

To get an S Rank on a Mission, you have to achieve an overall S ranking by averaging rankings from five different criteria, which are Time, Red Orbs, Style, Damage and Items Used. Getting high rankings on all five criteria will get you an S Rank. In essence, just complete the mission as fast as possible, collect lots of Red Orbs, achieve high Stylish ranking in combat, complete with less damage incur, and do not use any items to get an S Rank on a Mission.

If you have difficulty to get an S rank, play the game on Easy Mode or Normal Mode.

Man's Best Friend

Description: Defeat Cerberus
Difficulty: 8/10
How to get it: Defeat Cerberus on Mission 3 to get this Trophy. As the game's second boss, he hits hard with his headbutts and ice attacks. As Dante, use Ebony and Ivory or Shotgun to destroy the ices surrounding on each head. Then, attack the heads using Rebellion with Aerial Rave (Swordmaster) or using your guns. Over time, it will regenerate ice, so you have to repeat the process several times.

Vergil is fairly more easier to beat him in the first playthrough. Use Summoned Swords or Spiral Swords to destroy the ice on his heads, then use Yamato's Aerial Rave on the heads for easy damage. Use D.T. form when necessary.

NOTE: Cerberus' weakness is Agni and Rudra. Use it when fighting them again in subsequent playthroughs.

17S81611d.png
Pest Control

Description: Defeat Gigapede
Difficulty: 3/10
How to get it: Defeat Gigapede on Mission 4. Very easy to beat. Whenever he is flying low, jump to his back and run towards his head and use Cerberus. Gigapede is weak against Cerberus, so use the advantage. It will always fly back towards big holes to escape from you, so repeat the process when necessary. At times, it will attack you using lightning attacks, but they are not dangerous.

As Vergil, jump on his back, and use Force Edge or Beowulf along with Spiral Swords for big damage. Repeat the process when necessary.

NOTE: Gigapede's weakness is Cerberus and Agni and Rudra Use it when fighting them again in subsequent playthroughs.

18S9a4cba.png
Double Trouble

Description: Defeat Agni and Rudra
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Defeat Agni and Rudra on Mission 4. Very easy to beat, but here you are fighting two bosses. Despite their high attack power, they are rather patient and will not attack you at the same time. They also are prone to blocking your attacks, but you have to keep attacking them to make them open for your own attacks. Keep parrying their own attacks so that they will be stunned, and they will be open to your attacks easily. As Dante, use attacks like Revolver to parry their attacks easily. Once either Agni and Rudra is down, one of them will take up it's brother's sword and use it. This time, it will be tougher. One strategy is to deplete both bosses health low enough, and then kill them quickly before they activate their two-swords mode.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante, and use Beowulf's Lunar Phase to parry their attacks and Starfall to damage them easily.

NOTE: Agni's weakness is Cerberus. Use it when fighting it again in subsequent playthroughs. Beowulf is an alternative to fight Rudra.

19S85c69f.png
Sibling Rivalry

Description: Survive an encounter with Vergil and prevail
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Defeat Vergil on Mission 7. Vergil will deflects all firearms' shots, so don't rely on them to deal damage on him. Whenever Vergil finishes a move, he will sheath back his sword. This is the moment he is open to attack, so attack him as much as you can during this opening. Occasionally, Vergil will also block any melee attacks, so be aware. Always jump above him or dodge around him to attack him from his blindsides. For the first playthrough, recommended weapons against him are Rebellion or Cerberus.

For Vergil playthrough, use Beowulf or Force Edge against him when he is open. Same strategy as Dante should be applied here as well.

Inside Out

Description: Defeat the Heart of Leviathan
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Defeat the Heart of Leviathan on Mission 8. To actually defeat the boss, you need to damage one of two hearts until it is killed, then hit the main heart with all you got. This is a very simple fight, with bunch of Hell Envies for assistance for the boss. Dodge all of the main heart's attacks as much as possible, and exploit every possibility to damage the secondary hearts, then go after the main heart itself. One secondary heart absorb all Orbs when it is alive, whereas the other heart absorbs your D.T. gauge. I find that the priority is to kill the D.T. absorbing heart, as I could use D.T. form to inflict major damage to the main heart itself. Recommended Devil Arms for Dante to use against this boss are Rebellion and Cerberus. Rebellion Combo, Million Stabs, Revolver and other Cerberus combos work well against it,

As Vergil, use Aerial Rave on the secondary heart, and use Beowulf's Lunar Phase on the main heart itself. Use D.T. and Spirals whenever possible.

21S4a4d56.png
Lightning in a Bottle

Description: Defeat Nevan
Difficulty: 6/10
How to get it: Defeat Nevan on Mission 9. Easy to defeat, but Nevan has her bat shield up every time to prevent you from damaging her. Destroy the bat shield by using Cerberus' Revolver, Rebellion Combo I, Rebellion Combo II or other damaging attacks. After her shield is destroyed, you can damage her freely for a short time. Remember to dodge her lightning attacks, and use D.T. whenever she is running towards you without her bat shield when her health is low. Otherwise, she will suck Dante's blood and restore her own health.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante, and use Beowulf's Lunar Phase to destroy her shield, then use Beowulf moves as well as Spiral Swords when her shield is gone.

NOTE: Nevan's weaknesses are Cerberus and Beowulf. Beowulf is especially lethal against her.

22Sb80bd2.png
Lights Out

Description: Defeat Beowulf
Difficulty: 6/10
How to get it: Defeat Beowulf on Mission 11. Beowulf uses strong light attacks, but can be easily brought down if you keep attacking his face for higher damage. As Dante, use Aerial Rave (Swordmaster with Rebellion) or Aerial Cross (Agni and Rudra) to hit his face repeatedly. If done correctly, Beowulf will stun, and you can deal even more damage on him Watch out for his leaping attacks as well as his light attacks. Using Air Hike is useful in this battle.

As Vergil, use Yamato's Aerial Rave and Spiral Swords on his face, and keep repeating the process. Beowulf's weakness is Yamato, so use it to deal higher damage. If you are good, try using Judgement Cut on him.

NOTE: Beowulf's weakness is Yamato. Dante does not have any particular elemental advantage at him, but recommended weapons to fight him are Rebellion and Agni & Rudra using the Swordmaster style.

23S334500.png
Rough Rider

Description: Defeat Geryon
Difficulty: 7/10
How to get it: Defeat Geryon on Mission 12. The most tedious boss fight ever, since the boss always running around. As Dante, use Ebony and Ivory to damage the boss as much as possible in the first phase. At times, the boss will stop, allowing you to deal some free hits. In the second phase, the boss will run in circles, and will stop at the center of the room after running a few rounds. Be careful of his stomp attacks, as well as his spear-orbs attacks. Use Cerberus to damage it quickly, as it is weak against Cerbeurs. Remember that Geryon can teleport while being damaged, so always jump or dodge when you see that the boss is gone when you are attacking it.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante, and fire Summoned Swords at him relentlessly. Once he is stopped, use Beowulf and Summoned Swords to deal high damage. Use D.T. as well for increased damage.

NOTE: Geryon's weakness is Cerberus.

24S53ff0b.png
Brotherly Love

Description: Fight Vergil a second time and prevail
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Defeat Vergil on Mission 13. This time, Vergil can use Beowulf attacks as well as D.T. form. Use the same strategy on the first boss fight against him, as he fights more or less the same. You can force him to cancel his D.T. form by using D.T. yourself and damage him if you have the chance. Again, Dante's recommended weapons are Rebellion and Cerberus.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante. Use Beowulf or Force Edge to damage him, and use D.T. form whenever you can.

25S134966.png
That's Not Lady-Like

Description: Defeat Lady
Difficulty: 4/10
How to get it: Defeat Lady on Mission 15. A simple boss fight, but you have to rely on your firearms to deflect her own attacks. Use Ebony and Ivory to deflect her gunshots, then attack her whenever you are close to her. Do not use Stinger as it will cause Lady to backroll and counterattack. Use regular combos like Rebellion Combo I to damage her. Repeat the process until she is defeated. Recommended weapons for Dante are Beowulf and Rebellion.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante. Use Summoned Swords to deflect her shots, then use Beowulf to damage her.

26S395217.png
Step into the Light

Description: Defeat Doppelganger
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Defeat Doppelganger on Mission 17. Very easy to beat. His shadow D.T. form is invulnerable against any atatcks, but you can damage him by exposing his real form by attacking the light panels in the room. By activating all of the light panels in the room, the whole room will be covered in light and the boss is exposed to attacks. Use Beowulf in D.T. form for serious damage against him. After a while, the boss wil recover and darkens the whole room again. Repeat the process as necessary. If you open a light panel when he is nearby, he will be stunned for a while and you can damage him for a short time.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante. Again, use Beowulf attacks in D.T. form for increased damage.

NOTE: Doppelganger's weakness is Beowulf.

27S91c9a5.png
Asylum

Description: Defeat Arkham
Difficulty: 7/10
How to get it: Defeat Arkham on Mission 19. A tough boss fight, as his attacks are highly damaging and difficult to dodge. Dodge his arm attacks whenever you can. Occassionally, he will hide and summons his minions. Kill the minions quickly using Kalina Ann to avoid them damaging you easily. In the second phase, Vergil will help you to fight the boss, but you can't use D.T. form. Same procedure is repeated here as well.

As Vergil, use the same tactics like Dante. Use Beowulf and Spiral Swords to damage the boss easily. Use Spiral Swords and Yamato whenever he summons his blob minions.

28S825353.png
Big Spender

Description: Purchase all Devil Arm skills with Dante
Difficulty: 2/10
How to get it: Buy all Dante's Devil Arm skills to get this Trophy. If you want to farm Red Orbs, repeat Mission 1, Mission 13 or Mission 20 for easy Red Orbs by getting S Ranks on the missions.

29S6fbf58.png
Who's Laughing Now

Description: Defeat Jester in all of his forms
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Defeat Jester on Mission 5, Mission 12, and Mission 17. The boss is not extremely difficult, but can be incredibly annoying due to his shield and magic orb attacks. In the second and third boss fights, he will summon a giant ball for assistance. Any weapons work well against him, but I prefer to use Cerberus and Rebellion against him as Dante. As for Vergil, I prefer to use Beowulf and Spiral Sword against him.

30Sa09b3e.png
The Path Less Traveled

Description: Clear every mission in Yellow Orb Mode
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Complete the game in Yellow Orb Mode to get this Trophy. Unlike Gold Orb Mode that allows you to revive on the spot, Yellow Orb Mode only allows you to be revived on a checkpoint. This is best done with a new playthrough while playing the Easy Mode.

31S9d29fa.png
Trend Setter

Description: Reach the highest level in all Styles with Dante.
Difficulty: 4/10
How to get it: You need to get all of your starting Styles to level 3 to get this Trophy, which are Trickster, RoyalGuard, Swordmaster, and Gunslinger. Killing off regular enemies will reward you small Style points, but killing bosses reward you high Style points. The best way to get this early is by repeating Mission 18, as the final room has boss fights, allowing you to get Style points faster than playing the whole game again. Remember, you still need both Doppelganger and Quicksilver styles to get this Trophy.

32S5ed826.png
Locked 'n' Loaded

Description: Reach the highest level for any gun with Dante
Difficulty: 2/10
How to get it: Buy all upgrades for Dante's guns, which are Ebony and Ivory, Shotgun, Artemis, Spiral Gun, and Kalina Ann. Again, farm enough Red Orbs from Mission 1, Mission 13, and Mission 20 by completing them in S Ranks to get lots of Red Orbs.

33Sb560b3.png
Maximize Your Health

Description: Max out the Health Bar with Dante
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Max out Dante's Health Bar by collecting every Blue Orb Fragments and buying all Blue Orbs from the Divinity Statue. Blue Orb Fragments guide can be read here: http://devilmaycry.wikia.com/wiki/Devil_May_Cry_3_Blue_Orb_Fragment_Locations

Pssssh, who uses items? Lol.

I love double posting.

On a more serious note than my last post, how can beating Cerberus be 8/10 for difficulty, but beating the entire of normal is 7/10? If he is 8/10 to beat, surely then beating normal in general must be at least 8/10 no? Since you have to beat him to complete normal.

It's a good guide for getting all the achievements/trophies by the way.

Because I felt like it. Cerberus is difficult to beat even in Normal Mode as you do not have access to many weapons at the start of the game. After beating Cerberus, the challenge of the game can be lessened as you now have both Cerberus and Rebellion as offense. Imagine if you start the game on Hard Mode and fight Cerberus, it will be very difficult to beat him.

question!

how is beating bloody palace not harder then beating a boss like nevan or beowulf?

you have beat to most of the games bosses to get through, and i guarantee that you will fight a boss with 6/10 rating or higher at SOME point, and the final section has constantly devil triggered enemies, shouldn't this be at least as hard as completing Dante Must Die, as you have to pass through a section harder then most, if not all, sections of DMD to finish it?

Once you have obtained the Super costumes, beating Bloody Palace is very easy. I do not rate every Trophy difficulty to anyone's liking, but my own perception of difficulty on getting individual Trophies.

i was going to make a post explaining why i disagree, but then i realized i was being a baby, you are right, it is easier with a super costume.
