Things DmC did that could be added to DMC5

DragonMaster2010

Don't Let the Fall of America be Your Fall
I wanted to say "improve DMC5" but instead I say "added".

So in this list, I want to put up the things that could be added to a DMC5.

  • Weapon combo switching: DmC had a system that allowed faster switching of weapons that was indeed on the fly. For example, in DMC4, going from million stab, to prop, to rainstorm requires a bit of time if you don't know how to properly use the guard canceling and trickster. I feel DmC made a better method to attaining those moves in quick succession. So that'd be a cool feature to add.
  • movable charge attacks: for overdrive, snake eye, Roundtrip, etc. they were all able to move the position they were in upon release. Something you couldn't do in DMC4.
  • Moveable camera: Need I say more?
  • Face movement: DMC has had the mechanics to make facial expressions before, but I feel DmC took it a step higher in giving more expressions compared to DMC3 or DMC4. Plus more detail to say, wrinkles, the fabrication of the clothes wouldn't hurt.
  • Surreal scenery: DmC had some interesting scenery with Limbo's affects and all. And since the PS4/Xboxone has stronger engines, they can have to DMC4 style gameplay while also giving some more life into the world they create like DmC did with its smallest details.
  • A ricoshot: A form of ricshot would be cool to see in a DMC5.
  • A form of buy-in ala Aquila: The move can be very useful in bringing in enemies.
  • Inverse rainstorm: Definitely a must.
  • DT atmosphere: Yeah the DT was pretty wonky, but the black n white and red bleeding effect of the DT was arguably the best thing to happen to a DT. (I SAID ARGUABLY SO CALM YOUR T***) So that'd be a cool thing to see.
  • The level up system: It was a more structured manner of gaining new abilities so I'd like to see that added in.
  • Hardcore mode: Specifically a hardcore mode for a DMC5.
  • Must Style mode: Its definitely something that could be fun.
  • Practice mode: I feel it was something long overdue for the classic series.
  • No long puzzles: DmC's only real puzzle was the one on mission 18. I feel that for DMC5, there should be less puzzles so that it wouldn't slow the game down.
  • Not getting lost: DmC had a basic path to follow when it came to navigation, something I felt DMC4 lacked in both the Fortuna castle, and the forest. So for a DMC5, making the levels easier to go through while still keeping the aesthetics of said place is possible.
  • Enemies that don't slowly back away from you: In DMC4, enemies would slowly try to back away from you and mess up the grove of your attacks. in DmC (besides the Hunter) the enemies either came at you, or stood their ground and attack. I'd like to see something like that in DMC5 but with harder difficulties.
There are a few others I wanted to add but for the most part, these are just some of those things.

REMINDER: The thread says COULD add not SHOULD add. Sad I have to add that just for some of you people here, but I might as well. -_-

I'd like to see the black and white atmosphere of the DmC DT combined with the original DT. Also, I personally had no problems with enemies backing away from me in DMC4 unless they were Scarecrows.

Aside from that, I agree on everything you said.

Must Style Mode, nothing else.

All I really want for DMC5 is for it to be DMC4 on steroids and no DMC4: SE does not count.

All this. Considering how sloppy DMC4 was when it came to navigation and very poor level designing besides Fortuna city, DMC5 needs to learn from those mistakes.

Another thing I want for DMC5 is for actual characters. Not tropes and walking cliches that have plagued the Devil May Cry series since DMC3 and DMC4.

And I don't care if you wanna use the "But DmC wasn't any better with characters" excuse, because neither were any more intresting with characters then say Bayonetta even was, and that in itself is sad for both versions.

Get good Capcom writers or get out.

I think that's based on your preference. I actually really enjoyed both Bayonetta's and DMC's characters. Sure, there were some which I can totally agree about being bad such as Kyrie but for the most part I liked them.

Well yeah of course its based on my preference.

Do I really need to say "in my opinion" for stuff like this 24/7? Seems like an inconvenience.

My opinion on topics list:
1. Weapon Switching. Yes and no. Button-palette in DmC has predefined amount of weapons which is fine for one game, but always have same amount of weapons is kinda boring. Maybe alternatives, or if there are none remain by scrolling

2. Charge moves. Yes

3.Movable camera. I prefer LoS2 camera that is free unless dev want you to focus on something, so it goes to cinematic view.

4. Faces. Considering most characters in DMC isn't as hyperrealistic prob should stick to something like FF facial impressions. And please no human faces on demons. They look like genetical experiments because of it : I

5. Yes, that may be nice. Some effects could be cool

6. Ricoshot. Maybe. depends on how it's implemented and it's effectiveness.

7. Aquilla. No. Weapon is basically makes many enemies cake walk and there should be another means to bring enemy closer. (actually I would prefer smaller areas, so you don't need it in first place, like Ninja Gaiden zones)

8. I.Rainstorm. Yes

9. DT. no. It was originally made in McGee's Alice, which in its turn took idea from Doom I think. Transformation like this was overused (that aside, transforming coat in red colour is stupid) DT should be expansion over battle set, not some cinematic crap.

10. Level Up. Probably no. DmC basically give you everything for free. Need to add more depth to levelling up, instead of mishmash

11. Hardcore. Yes (though it pretty much vanilla DMC3 normal mode)

12. Must style. Yes, maybe.

13. Practice. Just keeping Bayonetta practice during load times should be enough.

14. puzzles. No. DmC replaced it with lame walking sections, that shouldn't be there. I prefer puzzles to it. Besides if done right puzzle add feel of exploration, something DmC was missing.

15. getting lost. No. Linear level structure is lame. It's for that reason FFXIII was so lacking. They should take a note of it. It should be allowed to explore areas, looking for items, missions etc, instead of being take by a hand and guided through the levels. They should keep explorations feeling instead of get from point a to point b with XX amount of arenas (Something that Bayonetta also was missing)

16.Enemies. Yes AI should improve, but not DmC way. Ever since DMC1 enemy ai took major drop with DMC2 enemies being pretty terrible (Aside from Despair). DMC3 enemies were pretty boring to fight with low AI, while DMC4 took some improvements, but not as much. DmC enemies also suffered from very low AI, low move set, and uninspired movements. So if they want to improve they should look back at DMC1 for normal grunts attitude, and ignore rest.

Ricochet shots are not something DmC introduced, you could do it in DMC3 with Spiral. But yeah, bring it back for DMC5, why not.

Movable charge attacks like Overdrive? They already thought about it and put it in DMC4 SE, Trish can shoot about 10 Drive waves and you can control the direction of all of them. I think they'll add this to DMC5 as well.

Same thing with Buy In, Trish has a move like that now. With the difference that it concentrates on the enemies in front of her, not all around her, which is a good change, game would be too easy otherwise.

Movable camera, absolutely. I have never understood why they included it in Bloody Palace but not the actual game.

"Alive" environment is something they already delved into with DMC3, with Netherwold's moving platforms and upside down positioning. Although I don't remember anything like that in DMC4, they need to get back on track with DMC5.

@Innsmouth adding Must Style or not depends on how the ranking system is designed. If it is like in DmC, damage based, reaching S rank is a joke and the mode is worthless.
Or like DMC4, in which reaching S is very easy compared to DMC3.
DMC3's system would be ideal for Must Style.

I want Limbo to make its return in some way shape or form. That alone was way more interesting than any of the environments in the previous installments. I'm a total sucker for unique art direction. Limbo is better than just leftover Castlevania levels.

I'd have appreciated more if the colors weren't so damn saturated everywhere. I had to turn down my monitor's saturation every time I booted up the game. Not pleasant to the eyes.

Well, that's you. My issue was only during the Mundus's Spawn boss fight. It gave me a headache.

Of course. When it comes to art stuff, there's no absolute truth.

However saturation was something I've heard quite a number of people complaining about back in the day, saying that a slider to regulate it would have been appreciated.
Even that mod for DMC4 that replaces the Bloody Palace environment with a DmC themed one is desaturated compared to DmC itself, and gotta say my senses said thank you to that modder LOL

I'm actually torn. As much as I love the look and feel of Limbo, I also am quite passionate about the lush Gothic interiors of the older games---particularly DMC1.

If there was a way to merge both, that would be great.

Actually idea with transforming environment came as soon as DMC1 with it's hellish transformations. So its possible to merge both and instead of urbanised setting use gothic scenery, and like @Foxtrot94 said pull saturation down.

When I said DmC's kind of world shifting, I mean ACTUALLY seeing the world shift right in front of you. None of that"Go through a door it's normal, go back its messed up". I wanna see it transform with my own eyes. In a cutscene or in game.

And yet nobody prevents from both combined, and I was talking about actually idea not about end product. There is no predefined rules that setting should be urbanised for this effects to work.
