Capcom announce ‘Vergil’s Downfall’ DLC for DmC; due to hit in February

To answer your question: Yes, Capcom and Ninja Theory will be releasing a premium DLC pack for DmC: Devil May Cry approximately one month after the release of the full game. Eager beavers, aren’t they? It seems the studios simply can’t wait to tell the story of Vergil’s supposed downfall in the upcoming DLC pack… ‘Vergil’s Downfall’. Dante’s no-nonsense brother is indeed set to receive his moment in the spotlight, with his very own campaign, complete with new ‘weapons, combos, enemies, and locations’. claims Capcom. This won’t just be a rehashing of Dante’s rebooted tale either, it seems, for Vergil will have his own unique story to tell when the DLC inevitable comes crashing in.

According to Capcom, we can expect the ‘Vergil’s Downfall’ DLC to land on Xbox 360 and PS3 in February and cost 720 Microsoft Points or $8.99, respectively. North American consumers whom pre-order DmC: Devil May Cry via GameStop or EB Canada will apparently receive a redeemable code to access Vergil’s Downfall at no charge when the content becomes available, but I have no clue as to where that leaves the rest of us whom might be residing outside of the States.

Oddly enough, Capcom felt the necessity to point out in the corresponding press release that this DLC pack is absolutely not one of those locked on-disk DLC deals that fans have become quite sour towards. The complete DLC package will allegedly be downloaded onto those hard drives of ours upon purchase, and will not simply be a case of the content simply being ‘unlocked’. Allegedly.

Hi there, I’ve got a few thoughts about this pack of DLC. Better I express this in text than with the sound of my voice upon hearing that what was once an unlockable function in a game of a highprofile series has now been shafted to ‘milked’ status.

I’m not infuriated, just disappointed because Capcom and Ninja Theory are holding back content, and announcing it 2 months before the actual games release. They really are behaving like Western Developers, (I’m looking at you Arkham City, since you of all studios and publishers had the gall to advertise Catwoman on your game’s boxart as well as various trailers, only to ultimately relegate her as a DLC character with some influence on the mainstory and requiring constant online connection).

Just because it may or may not be on disc doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to infuriate your customerbase yet again. DLC needs to be used as a way of expanding a projects life cycle, without keeping people waiting for a proper sequel down the line of years and years. If this is how businesses are going to conduct their marketing and content release, than it’s incredibly hard for me to look at potential pirates and call them theives, because esentially the producer is doing the same, just from a different platform or ‘side of the story’. Combine that with the hatred of the current Public Relations from NT and Capcom’s collaboration, and you as a company are asking for trouble in your profits.

I did take notice of some positives though within the trailer. This alternate Vergil uses the SwordSlash upper strike, Rapid Slash, Summoned Swords, Air Tricks and even carries a DoppleGanger Style power, (and displaying the Round Trip ability with Force Edge?). Is that his use of Devil Trigger? or maybe his hair will turn black while the rest of his body carries a color scheme reminicent of “Vante” from DMC3 Special Edition. Dear lord I pray NT doesn’t come across these boards for new ideas XD
